Can You Really Lose 5 Pounds a Week?
If you want to lose five pounds a week it isn't that difficult. The first thing, is that you have to commit yourself to the effort and the self discipline it will take. One of the first things that you should make sure of is that you go about losing the weight in the healthiest way that you can. The next thing is finding the means to keep the weight off once that you lose it.
If you really want to lose the weight it is important that you go about it in an intelligent way. Don't just stop eating. Yes, you can lose weight by not eating, but not as fast as you think because your body will stop shedding the fat cells as fast as it would if you maintain a health caloric intake and exercise. Also the whole point of the weight loss is to be looking your best, not like a refugee.
First look at what you currently eat. This is where you have to be honest. Most of us with a weight problem take in around 2500 to 3500 calories a day and live a fairly sedimentary lifestyle. That is something that has to change. You just can't wake up one morning and say 'I'm going to exercise for an hour', nice thought, but unfortunately the odds are that you will not even make it a hour. Just start to get active. Start out by taking the time to walk around the block. Gradually increase your distance. If you have a bike, ride along the community bike trails. Not only will it help you lose weight, it provides a good cardiovascular workout. Try a trial program at a fitness center in you neighborhood. Don't spend the money on a yearly membership, until you know that you will use it and will stick with the program.
On the food side, knock out the sweets and alcohol. Alcohol has many more calories than you would imagine. Cut the size of your portions to half and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. Drink water and tea instead of soda pop just become aware of what you are eating and when. Many times I'll find myself eating a snack and not even had realized that I had gotten it.
Most important of all, before you start on any type of weight loss program, clear it with your doctor. He may recommend a diet program and can advise you on the types of food that you should eat and the exercise program you start on.
